Starry Starry Night

Many of our guests love to sit out on the deck after the sun goes down and they often remark about how many stars they can see....particularly those who come from cities where the light pollution obscures the night sky. So in order for you to enjoy the experience even more, we've created Starry Starry Night.
Ron Perry (left) and Rolly Chaisson of the Athena Astronomy Club will delight you with their knowledge of the solar system and their stories of constellations and planets.....they're both wonderful story tellers...and believe us, they have lots of stories....and that really big telescope behind them! Your learning experience will start before we even go outside. Ron and Rolly will use a power point presentation and a planisphere to show you what to look for in the night sky....constellations like Orion....the rings of Saturn....the International Space Station.
Then they'll take you outdoors where that huge telescope will be set up for you to get up close and personal with the stars and planets. We'll also have binoculars.....you'll be amazed at how much you can see with them. And something really cool.....To make star formations even easier to find, they'll use a green laser pointer to draw an outline around constellations so you don't miss something because you can't find it.
And if you're here around August 12, you'll be able to join in our Perseid Party experiencing the spectacular Perseid meteor shower. In folklore, it's known as "The Tears of St. Lawrence" but Ron and Rolly will tell you the streaks of bright light are actually bits and pieces of the Swift-Tuttle comet travelling at about 37 miles per second. (See how much you're going to learn from these guys!) Starry Starry Night will be available most nights starting June 6 through to mid-October. Weather permitting. Fee: $75/pp + GST Minimum 2 participants $45/pp + GST 4 -10 participants |
