Some of our guests have come back after a day of exploring the Island and told us of a special spot they found....often because they got off the main highways and took a clay road with no idea where they might end up. Often they came upon a vista or winding stream or met an Islander who told them some local history...but it was always unexpected and delightful. In order to provide you with a unique experience that will take you off the traditional tourist routes and give you a different perspective, we have combined modern technology with an old fashioned scavenger hunt.
Geocaching is an adventure hobby that involves using a Global Positioning System (GPS) device to locate a cache....a hidden container, a landmark or just a special place. A GPS unit is a handheld device that shows your exact latitude and longitude coordinates and the direction you are traveling. And the really great thing about geocaching is, it takes you to places most tourists never get to....you'll see things from a perspective other visitors don't get and you never know where you're going to end up so each journey is a surprise no matter how often you come back. There are over 200 caches hidden across Prince Edward Island. We have the coordinates of every one of them loaded into our handheld GPS units and we can easily show you how to use one. We will customize a day's adventure for you. You can tell us the areas of the Island you'd like to go to...or we can put something together that will keep you wondering what's around the next corner. Don't have a GPS unit? No problem. We'll lend you one and teach you how to use it.
A variation on geocaching that many people enjoy is waymarking. It also involves using a handheld GPS unit but instead of looking for caches, you're looking for particular locations... You'll spend a day or half day seeking out historic sites, lighthouses, churches or a combination of unique places that most tourists never get to. We've created clues you'll use in your quest and questions to be answered to complete a crossword puzzle. Geocaching and waymarking experiences are available daily. $75 (includes use of 1 GPS unit. Additional units: $30/unit)($150 refundable deposit required for each GPS unit) Customized packages require 2 weeks notice. Rates vary according to the type and length of experience.
