We are all very excited around here about the world premiere of Follow the Fiddler – Prince Edward Island’s first outdoor theatre pageant, celebrating in story and song the colourful history of Victoria by the Sea. We have arranged for you to go along with the Fiddler on a story-telling walk through the village and you will get an exclusive backstage tour of the historic Victoria Playhouse with Artistic Director Erskine Smith.
The community's colourful history will come alive...you’ll meet the infamous anti-confederate Cornelius Howatt, young Clara and Millie waiting for the Harland Ferry to take them to Charlottetown , hear the mallets pounding as the vessel ‘The Seven Brothers’ prepares for launch in the fall of 1815, and learn about the ‘moonshine bird’. Written by Island poet laureate and noted Canadian author David Helwig the pageant is comprised of fourteen theatrical scenes, live music, poems and songs by Island artists.
Following the pageant, you'll be taken on a private, exclusive backstage tour of the beautiful historic Victoria Playhouse where Erskine is Artistic Director. The building was constructed between 1912-1914 and is widely known for its intimate interior and excellent acoustics. The hall has a rich history and has been the focal point of community activity for the past eighty-five years. It has been used for recruiting activities during wartime, plays, concerts, turkey and bean suppers, quilting bees, fashion shows, Christmas and school concerts, Women's Institute activities and Community Council meetings. Available: July 14-August 29 2:00 pm Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday Fee: $35/pp + GST We can also enhance your theatrical experience by booking tickets to one of the evening performances at the Playhouse and arranging dinner at the fabulous Landmark Cafe. Just ask. |
