At St. Peter's Bay Craft & Giftware, they produce Eastern Canada's largest line of pewter jewelry. Under the Cape Tryon brand, they make a unique selection of celtic, classic and nautical designs right on the premises..... Now you can become a Master Caster and create your own personal pendant, brooch or other jewelry piece.
Making things from pewter is a centuries old process. At one time, before the development of glass and pottery, you'd find pewter utensils, goblets and dinner ware in virtually every home in the civilized world. Pewter was used because it is a particularly malleable metal that can be molded or hammered into almost any shape you want. You'll work alongside our professional Master Caster, Bev Roach who will take you through the step-by-step process she uses everyday to create beautiful works of art. She'll help you select from the hundreds of designs they have in stock and show you how to safely pour the pewter into the molds where it will be spun and hardened into your own personal souvenirs.
Once you've created several designs, Bev will show you how to spray them for baking and finishing. Then you'll learn how to use the vertical sander and buffer until your pieces are just right. But casting and finishing are only the first parts of the process....once everything is polished or buffed you'll move on to the assembly station where you'll be shown how to tie a slip knot, add beading and use cord, wire or chain to finish off your piece. Your experience includes one piece of jewely to take home but if you want to keep some of the other designs you created, you can have them for just $12 each. In a very eco-friendly move, any pieces you don't want or mistakes that get made are simply melted down and reused. Before you leave, we'll present you with a special pin verifying you are officially a Master Caster.
