When you arrive at Malpeque Fine Iron, you can be forgiven if you think you’ve wandered into a strange world populated by some of the most

bizarre creatures you’ve ever seen.  There are cats and frogs,,,,lobsters and spiders….ladyslippers and daisies…turtles, flies and crabs. 

All the creations are by Dianne and Eric Schurman who have a passion for taking things other people don’t want and turning them into amazing

works of intriguing folk art.

Eric Schurman is a master craftsman working his magic at the forge and anvil where horseshoes become frogs lobsters grow from old wrenches and rods.   Dianne then takes Eric’s creations and gives them life through vibrant colours and accents.   Together they will show you how to make your very own piece of folk art from recycled scrap metal or a unique black iron decorative piece using the forge.

You’ll spend the morning with Eric and Dianne selecting the material you want to use to create your own frog or cat.  Eric will help you heat the

pieces in the forge, bend them into whatever shape you want and then weld them into your personal creation.  Then with Dianne, you’ll pick the

colours you’ll use to bring your creature to life. 

 And if you’re more practical than whimsical, you can try your hand at creating your own black iron coat hook, picture holder or calendar hanger.
